I know this is really random… and long… and I should be finishing my APUSH homework right now but yeah…
So I’m a Filipino girl and I’m VP of this club on campus called Tinikling Dance Club, and “Tinikling” is a popular form of dance in the Philippines.
After Typhoon Haiyan, a couple of the members discussed plans of fundraising and they eventually came to the conclusion of putting on an event at our school and I was put in charge of it.
It was really stressful and stuff but last Thursday after a ton of advertising we hosted “Hope After Haiyan,” an event where a bunch of dance clubs at our school (generally rivals actually) got together to support us as well as members of our school’s actual Dance Company (they’re the best in our region so it was a huge honor that they wanted to perform) and well… it was amazing. Like forealz it was perfect.
We raised over $600 and it’s still counting. So many people were willing to come out and support a little event that a little club made up of little high school kids wanted to do. And our principal even came up to me and wanted to discuss making it a yearly thing, like a real event that’s permanently part of our school’s calendar. Like a tradition.
I don’t know, it’s kind of the same reason I’m still in yearbook throughout all the stress of it, for this feeling I have right now. This feeling that no matter what I do, I’ll be happy. Because I feel like I really made a difference, you know? I helped create something, I helped start something. I feel like for once, I did something that was actually worth it. And now, I helped start something at our school, I actually made my mark.
But yeah… this is just a long random post that I wanted to share. I hope you all have a goodnight. :)
